The museum turns into a playing field and visitors become actively involved or are spectators on the sidelines: the exhibition explores sport from an artistic perspective. What happens when you change the rules or rethink them entirely? When you alter the functions and forms of sports equipment? Or when you free sport from the pressure to compete and perform? International artists pose questions of the social, cultural and societal dimensions of sport. Many artworks invite active participation: for example, at a table tennis table with obstacles, on a slightly different chessboard, or with balls that aren’t round. As a mass phenomenon, sport brings people together and fosters a sense of community. It can also create a sense of identity. At the same time, barriers to and restrictions on participation are omnipresent – and which need to be overcome. The project was developed in collaboration with the associations beneFit and Ring Freiburg and under the patronage of Christian Streich.
