Welcome!

The Städtische Museen Freiburg comprise a group of five museums that work together under one director. They cover a wide range of topics and themes. The Augustinermuseum houses a celebrated collection of art from the Middle Ages to the Baroque, as well as paintings from the 19th century. From the end of 2025, it will also be home to local and cultural history collections.

The Museum für Neue Kunst exhibits masterpieces from classical modernism to the present day. The Archäologisches Museum Colombischlössle takes visitors on a journey through the millennia, from the Stone Age to the early Middle Ages. The Museum Natur und Mensch is all about celebrating the amazing diversity and uniqueness of our natural and cultural world. The Dokumentationszentrum Nationalsozialismus (DZNS) will open in Freiburg as an important centre for documenting, researching and discussing the National Socialist era.

The Department of Communication and Education is responsible for the educational programmes and for marketing all the museums. The Städtische Museen Freiburg work closely with the Central Cultural Administration, which also oversees the Central Workshops.

Dokumentationszentrum Nationalsozialismus
The Dokumentationszentrum Nationalsozialismus has been dedicated to the city's NS history since 2025, and occupies three floors of the former tourist information, built in 1936. In addition to the permanent exhibition and a temporary exhibition area, the historic building also houses seminar rooms, offices and part of the Gertrud Luckner Library. The memorial room in the courtyard commemorates those who were persecuted and murdered in Freiburg and the surrounding area.
