The Cultural Capital of the Museum

The museum is currently undergoing a major renovation. In three main phases, contemporary exhibition spaces are being created that will offer a unique spatial and artistic experience. The first milestone was reached in 2010 with the conversion of the former monastery church. The second phase involved the renovation of the Haus der Graphischen Sammlung. In 2016, the collections of the Augustinermuseum and the Museum für Neue Kunst were moved.

The third phase is currently in its final stages. Once completed in 2025, the urban and cultural history collections will breathe new life into the listed former convent building. An auditorium, the Welte-Lounge and a museum café will be added to the existing structure. The outdoor spaces, including the cloister courtyard and crenelated wall garden, will also enhance the visitor experience.
