In Remembrance of the Persecuted Citizens of Freiburg
The Memorial Room, located in the covered courtyard, is dedicated to the memory of all those from Freiburg who were persecuted during the NS era. The Memorial Room displays the names of those who were murdered or died as a result of persecution between 1933 and 1945, as far as this information is known. Biographical information and photographs of each individual, where available, can be accessed with an app. These biographies are constantly updated. The rear part of the room is dedicated to the memory of the persecuted Jewish inhabitants of Freiburg and the destroyed Freiburg synagogue. Several foundation stones of the synagogue, which stood until 1938 a few hundred metres away on the site of today's Old Synagogue Square, are embedded in the floor.
